Hi there! I’m Deidra, the founder of Rooted in Learning.
Growing up, you’d find me either lost in a story or out exploring the world around me—usually barefoot. In high school, I had the chance to dig into programs like Microsoft Office, Adobe Photoshop, and QuickBooks—and I was hooked. The possibilities of what you could create and solve with just one tool fascinated me. Put a few of them together? Endless potential.
Fast forward to today: I'm married to the love of my life, raising an amazing (and very energetic) son, and living a more natural, ‘crunchy’ lifestyle. That choice led us to homeschool—an adventure that’s been equal parts rewarding and humbling. I’m thankful every day for the sacrifices my husband makes so we can live this life.
But like many stay-at-home moms, I’ve felt the weight of not contributing financially. I found myself torn—considering going back to work even if it meant giving up homeschooling. That internal struggle is what sparked Rooted in Learning.
This company is my way of building something meaningful—not just for my family, but for anyone out there who’s felt stuck. Whether you’re trying to land a job, hoping for a promotion, or just want to feel more confident using technology, I’m here to help you grow those skills—step by step, root by root.
Let’s get learning.
Rooted in Learning was officially founded in May 2025—though the seed had been planted long before that.
I started noticing a major disconnect in the workforce: employers were asking for 2–5 years of experience for entry-level jobs. Entry-level. How are we supposed to gain experience in something when the only way to get it is through a job we can’t qualify for?
I was lucky. My high school experience introduced me to a range of programs—Microsoft Office, Photoshop, QuickBooks—which gave me a head start. That early knowledge helped me land jobs and eventually work my way up to a management position... right in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you were in the workforce then, you know—it was rough. Staffing shortages were everywhere. We’d finally find a candidate who seemed like a perfect fit, but they’d fall short because they didn’t know the tools we used daily. But how could they? We didn’t have the time or bandwidth to train them from the ground up.
That’s when it clicked: the workforce is missing something vital—a way for people to learn these everyday tools before they’re on the job.
And that’s where Rooted in Learning truly began.
I wanted to build something that supported both individuals and small businesses—two groups just trying to make it work. As an individual, you can work through these courses at your own pace and gain the foundational skills needed for your career—without the massive price tag of a college course. As a business, you can hire based on values and fit, knowing your new employee has access to the training they need to grow into the role.
My goal has always been simple: create practical, easy-to-follow learning that’s affordable and welcoming. Rooted in Learning is not just another jargon-filled tech company—it’s a place shaped by a homeschooling mom, a pandemic-era manager, and a teenage girl who fell in love with tech before she knew what it meant.
